After dropping a pair of killer albums on Fat Wreck Chords on 2001 and 2003 in the form of The Unraveling and Revolutions Per Minute, respectively, Rise Against made the unexpected move of signing to a major label. That move prompted a slight line-up change, as guitar duties shifted from founding guitarist Dan Precision to ex-Reach The Sky axe man Chris Chasse. This major label transition had quite a few punk fans worried about the “sell-out” factor in the band’s new CD, thinking the corporate machine would squash all that was great about this exciting hardcore band. Fortunately for those fans and the band, Siren Song Of The Counter Culture proves that though Rise Against will now be getting tour support and larger advances, they haven’t lost a beat. “Give It All” is the first single and is starting to make a big impact at specialty radio. If you’d like to dig a little a deeper into the record, songs like “The Them These Streets Belong”, “First Drop” and “State Of The Union” are all more than worthwhile tracks. And as you might imagine, there’s quite a political undertone to this record. Bush supporters beware!
