You probably have heard them namedropped on everyone’s list these days. Morrissey had them on his “Songs To Save Your Life” CD that came with NME a few months ago. Scenester DJs like Popscene’s Aaron Axelson in San Francisco have them in their Top Five. Who are Irish newcomers Remma? Apparently Morrissey liked them enough to sign them to his Attack label after seeing them once in a Scottish club. Currently one of the “Top Ten Young Bands” in Ireland, they are aged from sixteen to twenty-one. They have played the festivals and TV shows in their native land and now looking to the US shores. First track “Worry Young” is a building number, violins set up a chorus based on soft/hard dynamics which kick in with a wash distorted guitars and falsettos. The double time ending must sound great in a club. Second track “Sincerity” finds the start and stop guitars riff reminiscent of earlier ’90s US post-hardcore rock bands. Final track “Conversations Getting Old” plays off the lyrics of being given one chance, starting acoustic then switching mid song to a fuller, electric crunch. Think Therapy? meets Promise Ring.
