Always Never Again

Supersystem
Always Never Again

Touch & Go

Thought the dance/rock, disco/punk, punk/funk (or whatever you want to call it) revolution was over? Pssssssch, wrong! It’s just getting started. The DC/NY quartet formerly known as El Guapo and now known as Supersystem is single handedly seeing to that. Building on the success of bands like LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, Le Tigre, and labelmates !!! (chk chk chk), Supersystem take the dance punk funk disco thing to new, previously untraveled territory. Blending everything from ’80s electro-pop to computer game disco to absurdist lyrics to the kitchen sink, Supersystem have filled their debut album with 10 tracks (40 minutes) of pure party-starting, ass-shaking, roger rabbit-doing, dance floor-filling, fun. From the album opener, first single and environmentally friendly “Born Into The World” to the raw, sneering punk rock vocals of “1977″, Always Never Again keeps the listener on their toes and craving more. Imagine The Faint, LCD Soundsystem and Junior Senior pureed in your mom’s cuisinart, then fed intravenously to a synthetically generated human from infancy through maturation (a-la The Matrix), and you’ll start to come close to understanding what makes this band tick. Always Never Again is an instant party classic and will be a hit with fans of any band mentioned in this review. Gritty and raw, sleek and cool, Supersystem is a hipster’s dream come true.
