Singer/songwriter Imogen Heap has released her third full-length album, Speak For Yourself, since signing her first record deal in 1997 at age 17. This latest installment features the artist’s unique blend of electronica, classical piano, and diva pop. Although it has been over three years since the release of Details, which she recorded with Guy Sigsworth as the duo Frou Frou, her recent exposure on the finalé of The OC promoted a whopping 27,000 downloads of “Hide And Seek”, the first single, from the new album. Speak For Yourself is a dynamic ensemble of music that could be described as Kylie Minougue riding a mechanical bull with Kate Bush. The album flows between sentimental synth sections and rustic melancholy vocals, providing for a vicious combination. The production of the album, which was handled by Heap, is excellently recorded and features rich back up harmonies that accentuate the pop elements in each song. Imogen Heap now resides in London, but hails from Essex where she was first introduced to music in the form of European classical piano. It wasn’t until her teens that Heap realized her deep attraction to alternative pop-rock, Euro-pop and electronica, all of which appear in her music. So whether it’s the Frou Frou track “Let’s Go”, which was included on the Garden State soundtrack, or her solo effort “Hide And Seek,” which aired on The OC, it’s clear that Imogen Heap has been making all the right moves during the course of her career.
