Hot Chip return in their usual swagger with the Over and Over EP, a six-track remix that renders synthesizing tickles-and-giggles. In the vein of LCD Soundsystem, Kraftwerk and Robert Wyatt, the group re-invent repetition with “Over and Over,” a track that becomes progressively dance-driven as the album approaches Justus Kohncke’s “Baking Horse Club Mix”. The Solid Groove remix of the track resonates in similar fashion with Ben Watt in its tempo and effervescent sampling, while the Justus mix maintains the flow of its bass beat to the digression. Silence. Then, “And when it feels this way I’m really with you,” emerges past the intermission. Also, hotly moving is “Plastic,” showcasing sharp synths and reverb. Notably, “A Family In Here” features the melodramatic essence of Hot Chip’s hymns as a slower stamp of the poignant side. Definitely after registering the good times of their debut, Coming On Strong, I (like many) am looking forward to the follow up, The Warning, and so should you. In the meantime, put this remix on repeat.
