Q & A

OFFICE
Q & A

OFFICE is an unsigned band from Chicago made up of two boys and two girls. Formed about two years ago, they are fronted by multi-talented singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Scott Masson, who also produces their records, of which they have two. Q & A is the band’s second self-released album and the one that’s going to get them a record deal. Sounding like a group of well-polished professionals rather that four kids with day jobs, OFFICE has proven themselves ready for the big time with this release. The twelve-song offering is a little slice of indie pop perfection with smooth, tight, boy/girl harmonies, confident lead vocals, unbelievably catchy hooks, and just a hint of “electro.” Songs like the guitar-heavy “Oh My”, the head-bobbing “If You Don’t Know By Now”, and the pop-tastic “Dominos” are prime examples. One of my favorite things about this record is that it starts and finishes with two of its strongest tracks, “Wound Up” and “Possibilities,” respectively. While there are one or two songs that sound misplaced (the piano ballad “Until 6pm” for example), Q & A is an album that could easily be scooped up and released as-is by a proper label. If their live show is even half as good as this record, they’ll be making waves in this biz in no time. Catch them down in Austin @ Schubas’ day party or the ASCAP showcase and find out for yourself. I’ll see you there.
