I feel like I keep starting my interview intros with “one of my favorite albums of the year was…” and then segue into a discussion about the band at hand (I must admit, the first quarter of the year has produced a lot of great releases). So I’ll avoid that this time around, but it should be noted that I’ve listened to the new Black Lips record, 200 Million Thousand as much as any other record in 2009. That’s why it was a no-brainer to take some time out of our day for a quaint conversation by a dirty creek with the infamous foursome.

As we told you, the new Black Lips album 200 Million Thousand is one of our favorites of 2009 (it might be our editor’s number one). And in our review, we point out two songs in particular, “Drugs” and “Starting Over”, as they seem to play poetically off of each other. Man, I hate to say it, but I think I love this record. You’re undoubtedly asking yourself one of two questions right now: Why do I hate to say it? Or why do I love it? The answer to both is the same: Because the Black Lips come pre-hyped and exposed for all the world to see and hear, yet they have defied the odds and put out a record unlike anything they have done to date. Still, 200 Million Thousand is a record that is undeniably all the Black Lips.

The Black Lips have announced the release date and name of their new LP. The 14-track follow-up Good Bad Not Evil will will once again be put out by Vice Records and will see the Lips tour extensively to multiple continents. We’re hoping they bring LiveFastDie along for the ride, since they were so fun together during CMJ.
