New Additions to Siren Festival Announced

theeohsees_main

In addition to the already announced and already pretty good Siren Festival lineup (including Built to Spill, Spank Rock, The Raveonettes, Frightened Rabbit, Grand Duchy, Monotonix, Future of the Left, Japandroids, Micachu & The Shapes and Bearhands), Justine D, the Deadheat DJs, guitar grinders A Place To Bury Strangers, and prolific psych-garage weirdos Thee Oh Sees have been added to the lineup. Expect fuzzy vocals, layers of guitar effects and a few Coney Island regulars who will totally let you touch the Boa Constrictor ominously slithering around their shoulders.

A Place To Bury Strangers, Dinowalrus, Crash Diet Crew @ Less Artists More Condos | NYC

A Place To Bury Strangers
[Photos by Sarahana and Rez Avissar]

It was rainy and wet outside, leading to a hot, moist and loud evening inside at Less Artists More Condos. Good thing it was a stacked line-up as all three bands on the bill were worth the effort of trying to find a hiding place for your umbrella. So good in fact, we had two Tripwire photographers there. Here is what they saw. [Derek Evers]

The Place To Bury Strangers dudes put on what I imagine would be their own wet-dream shows. Their venue preferences lean toward the dank, the DIY and the grimy, and they do what they can as far as tricks nabbed from the book of Cheap Theatrics That Work, with their fog machine, awesome visual projections, strobe lights, periods of absolute pitch darkness, tearing the strings on your guitar with your fingers while playing it, swinging your guitar around inches away from people’s faces, holding it up in the air and striking it as if it’s God (or Satan?) strumming his wrath through your very pick, and on and on. Oh….. and it was fucking LOUD. Painfully, blisteringly, gloriously loud. [Rez Avissar]
