Adam Yauch on the Mend with Help from the Dalai Lama

It’s been only a few months since doctors found cancer in Adam Yauch’s salivary gland and the Beastie better known as MCA is already on the mend. After surgery, a host of well wishes/tributes at All Points West, a trip to India and a chill sesh, I mean, three-day retreat, with the Dalai Lama, Yauch is feeling much better, having responded positively to treatment and telling fans “I’m feeling healthy, strong and hopeful that I’ve beaten this thing.”

Adam’s been homeboys with the Lama for a long time, and of course you remember the epic Tibetan Freedom Concerts of the ’90s, so its no surprise that he’s taken the advice of Tibetan monks and teachers in his recovery and is currently taking Tibetan medicine and adhering to an all organic, vegan diet. In addition, Yauch went to a Jamyang Choling, a Tibetan nunnery, where, according to Nathanial Hörnblowér himself, “They did a Puja (religious ceremony) for me to help me get well. One nun said to me, ‘We do prayers and then you are better.’ So I’ve got that going for me, which is nice.” We’re going to take MCA quoting Carl Spackler as a sign that he really is beating the cancer and will be back with the Beastie’s before we know it.

Adam Yauch Doing Well After Surgery

Following up on a recent post, we are happy to report that Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys is doing well after surgery to take care of a cancerous tumor of the parotid gland. The surgery, which went down about a week and a half ago, went smoothly, Yauch said in an email sent to Rolling Stone, and will be followed up with radiation treatment.  For now, Yauch is recouping at home and gives thanks to Jay-Z, who filled The Beastie Boys’ slot at All Points West last weekend. Get well soon.
