Not having enough material has never been a problem for Bradford Cox. When Deerhunter released Cryptograms a few years back, they quickly followed it up, and packaged the vinyl, with Flourescent Grey. Cox bundled the first Atlas Sound album with the Another Bedroom EP. After Deerhunter’s Microcastle leaked months in advance, the band slyly released one of the best records of last year with the equally as epic Weird Era Cont. Throw in Rainwater Cassette Exchange, a dozen or so virtual 7-inches, a handful of micromixes and all sorts of other Mediafire goodies and you’ll start to ask yourself, When does Bradford Cox sleep?

Apparently the answer is, never, as Cox, whose hotly anticipated Logos will be released next Tuesday. The album will come with a bonus EP of unreleased tracks and alternative mixes of Logos tracks “Ruben,” “Kid Klimax” and “Criminals.” However, don’t assume that when you go to FYE (that’s where y’all buy CD’s, right?) that you’ll automatically score the bonus EP with Logos. The fourth annual Fun Fun Fun Fest will hit Austin, Texas’ Waterloo Park for two days packed with music on November 7 and 8. The full lineup for the 2009 festival was just announced, and includes Ratatat, Of Montreal, Crystal Castles, Les Savy Fav, Yeasayer, Mission of Burma, Broadcast, Atlas Sound, No Age, Shonen Knife, Fuck Buttons, Times New Viking, Crystal Antlers, Jesus Lizard, Kid Sister, HEALTH, Neon Indian, and Alaska in Winter, among many others. Tickets go on sale today on the Fun Fest’s website, with early bird tickets going for $67.50 and early bird pip tickets selling for $135. The preliminary lineup for this year’s CMJ Music Marathon in New York has been announced. The event, which will run from October 20 to 24 at music venues across Manhattan and Brooklyn, will include School of Seven Bells, Broadcast, Japandroids. Mum, Atlas Sound, the Budos Band, Pitbull, the Very Best, Crystal Antlers, Cymbals Eat Guitars, the Antlers, Suckers, Pissed Jeans, and Screaming Females.

Two is pretty much always better than one, and this is certainly the case when it comes to touring indie bands. Atlas Sound (aka Bradford Cox) and Broadcast are teaming up for a North American tour, starting October 15, dates of which are featured below. This will be Broadcast’s first live appearance in the good old U.S. of A in four long years. We expect the tour will feature performances of lots of new jams by both acts, as they both have new albums on the way: Atlas Sound’s LP Logos drops via Kranky on October 20th and Broadcast’s latest EP (title TBA) will also be available through Warp in October. Deerhunter’s frontman Bradford Cox is working on a new Atlas Sound LP, Logos, due to come out on October 20th. But he’s not doing it alone…he’s got Animal Collective’s very own, Noah Lennox (aka Panda Bear) as well as Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier to fill in some guest spots on the upcoming LP. Here’s a little taste of what you can expect, a little note from the man himself:

“My last album was a bedroom laptop type thing. Very introverted. Logos is an album that was recorded all over the world. It’s nota bout me. There are collaborationns with other musicians. The lyrics are not autobiographical. The view is a lot more panoramic and less close-up. I became bored with introspection. This was also the case [for] Deerhunter’s ‘Microcastle’ LP, which was written during the same period.”

And also, “Almost everything you hear on the album is a first take. This makes it almost like a ‘live album’ where a band sets up in a studio and just rolls tape. There are songs on here i don’t even remember recording.”

Deerhunter is releasing a new EP called Rainwater Cassette Exchange digitally in May and on CD and vinyl in June, and since we are big fans of Bradford Cox and all of his projects, we’re assuming that this new EP will be a great follow up to last year’s Microcastle. But that’s not for us to decide, so take a listen of the first single, which is also the title track.

The new EP will be released, once again, on Kranky, and was recorded at Rare Book Room studios in Brooklyn, with the help of, once again, Nicolas Verhes. If the new track is any indication, Rainwater Cassette Exchange will follow a similar formula to Microcastle, seeing Bradford stick to a more constructed tone, maybe pulling the reigns in on his noisey world even a bit more. The new track has a vaporous feel, yet stays true to the Deerhunter sound we’ve become familiar with. And while it sounds as though Cox may have pulled out some unused Atlas Sound loops and thrown them into the mix for “Rainwater Cassette Exchange”, it looks as though Deerhunter is becoming more of a “real” band sonically, leaving the weirdness to solo endeavors.

The ever-prolific Bradford Cox of Atlas Sound and Deerhunter releases another installment of his virtual 7″ series. Landing the #2 spot on our Best of 2008 list, The Tripwire welcomes any additional material from Cox’s solo project.

Posted last Thursday, March 19, the brief 7″ contains “Solo or the Square” and “Memorial Corridor”. The former features a calypso arpeggio over top Cox’s marked wash production. “I got tired of the good life,” he sings in his token murmur. “Memorial Corridor” patiently follows seemingly directionless synth noises until the bedroom-pop melody kicks in.

Atlas Sound is Bradford Cox’s individualized catharsis. Irremovable from his art is his physical condition (Marfan Syndrome) and this reality is at the forefront of his work. Recorded at home, Let the Blind is a personal record, one that that challenges criteria for self-worth, and this quality is accentuated by Cox’s knack for letting specific sonic ideas reverberate into something vivid and powering.

“I’m waiting to be changed,” he repeats in “Quarantined” as the lyric gains awesome momentum with each reiteration. With seamless flow, the tracks weave into one another finishing with the instrumental title-track – a hazy, alluring backdrop with a continuous arpeggio. At its heart, Let the Blind is a deeply humanist record that refuses conventional social stigmas, repudiates the superficial, and demands truth and meaning from itself and others.
