As an introduction to his recently announced Record Club, Beck posted this cover of Velvet Underground & Nico’s “Sunday Morning” with a vocal assist from Icelandic lady Thorunn Magnusdottir of the band The Honeymoon. Are there Scientologists in Iceland now? If so, how and when did that happen? Presumaby, Beck will put up “I’m Waiting for the Man” next Friday, hopefully with Giovanni Ribisi on flute.
Beck has announced that he is embarking on a new project entitled Record Club, and it’s a pretty exclusive club. Every week Beck will have an unrehearsed, one-day session with another artist (such as MGMT, Devendra Banhart, or Jamie Lidell) and record a classic album to be posted on his website. First up on the list of classics to be tackled is The Velvet Underground & Nico, and his version of “Sunday Morning” has already been released as a bonus 7″.
