It’s possible that over the past several weeks you’ve noticed the reviews slow to a trickle around these parts. We had our reasons! Cookies weren’t involved! Okay, maybe they were! All of us at Tripwire HQ are pleased to introduce to you today a new chapter in our “take” on music criticism—by handing over the keys. Starting this week and every Tuesday hereafter, we’ll be posting a full album stream through our friends over at LaLa. What we’d like you to do is lend us your brainwaves and tweet whatever crosses your mind while listening. Maybe there’s a riff you can’t get out of your head. A lyric? A moment? An image? If you’re feeling ambitious, spend your 124 characters reviewing the record as a whole. Just toss those tweets over to us at @thetripwire and by the end of the week, we’ll cobble together and share the beautiful mess of a madlib it creates. This week’s album up for review is Built to Spill’s There Is No Enemy, the Boise outfit’s seventh and we think, finest this decade.

It’s no secret that Built to Spill are a jam band, so it’s nice to see them fully embrace the culture by allowing their fans to determine the setlist for their show at the Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle on July 24th. Trust us when we say that this is a way better method of getting what you want than just yelling song names at the band while they’re playing. Go here to vote. (via The Stranger Music Blog)

See some good bands for free and potentially get talked into riding the Cyclone? We’re in. The Village Voice announced today the initial line-up for its ninth annual Siren Music Festival, going down as always at historic Coney Island and this year featuring Built to Spill, The Raveonettes and more.

The festivities take place Saturday, July 18 from noon to 9 p.m. on two stages at Coney Island. Built to Spill, The Raveonettes, Frightened Rabbit, Grand Duchy, Monotix and Micachu & The Shapes will perform, plus more bands to be announced in the weeks leading up to the fest.

The line-up for San Francisco’s second annual Outside Lands Music & Arts festival has been announced. The three-day festival will take place in late August at the Golden Gate park, and headliners include Pearl Jam, Beastie Boys, M.I.A. Dave Matthews Band, and… Tom Jones. (If that’s not enough to make you want to go by itself, than we don’t know what to tell you.)

The festival runs from August 28-30, and along with it’s diverse line up, the event offers some of the best food and wine in the California region, as well as providing various eco-friendly options — like recycling and a solar powered cell phone charging station — for concert-goers.

Along with the aforementioned headliners, other acts on the roster include Modest Mouse, TV on the Radio, Mastodon, Built To Spill, Atmosphere, Deerhunter, Portugal. The Man and Matt and Kim, among a whole bunch more. Tickets for the Outside Lands Music & Arts festival go on sale this Sunday, April 19, at 10 a.m. Some of the proceeds for each ticket sold also go to a good cause, helping benefit San Francisco’s Recreation and Park Department.

Ironically, not reported first by Pitchfork, but instead by respected Chicago Sun Times music critic Jim DeRogatis [via The Daily Swarm], the 2009 Pitchfork Music Festival will be dropping their “Don’t Look Back” classic-album theme, and instead will allow fans the chance to come up with the set lists as part of a new series called “Write The Night: Set Lists By Request.”

According to DeRogatis’ posts, the acts announced so far for Friday, July 17, are Built to Spill, reunited Chicago noise-rock legends the Jesus Lizard playing their first show in Chicago in 11 years, as well as respected classics Tortoise and Yo La Tengo. Acts announced for Saturday, July 18, include the National, Pharoahe Monch and the Pains of Being Pure at Heart. And the performers unveiled for Sunday, July 19, are Grizzly Bear, The Walkmen and the Vivian Girls.

Voting for the set lists begins when tickets go on sale on March 13 and ends on June 12.

Ok, we’re taking liberties here, because “Paper Planes” was released in 2007, but it exploded to worldwide popularity in 2008. And hell, if the Grammy’s can come calling a year late, so can we.

Officially released as a single in early 2008, “Paper Planes” is the third single from M.I.A.’s second studio album, Kala. With a main riff sampled from the song “Straight to Hell” by The Clash and its chorus lyrics taken from “Rump Shaker” by Wreckx-N-Effect, it became an international hit after appearing in the trailer for the film Pineapple Express. It became so popular that it was sampled in a song by T.I. and Jay-Z, it’s been covered in performances by Rihanna and Built To Spill, and in December the single was nominated for the Record of the Year at the 51st Grammy Awards.

M.I.A. – “Paper Planes”
