Cass McCombs’ Catacombs is one of our favorite records of the year thus forth. This Aaron Brown-directed clip for “The Executioner’s Song” is its most recent to surface. Side note: how cute are those sheep when they run in slow-mo like that? Fuck, this video is sad and beautiful.
Cass McCombs stopped by the WOXY studios while on tour with Band of Horses and played a set for the online radio station, including three gems from his latest album, Catacombs, plus older track, “Equinox.” WOXY has a nice set of photos up on its website from the session, including one of a very pensive-looking McCombs strumming his electric guitar, a multi-colored scarf/headband giving him an added jolt of intensity. The tracks are available as individual streams and as one full session download; check it out here.
If you’ve ever read the Missed Connnections section on Craigslist.com, you already know how hilarious and bizarre it can be. But now that portion of the site is being used for indie music gushing… Cass McCombs praise, specifically. Featuring choice gems as “stellar reminscences” and “magnetized and now mystified, regretful and teeming with gratitude,” Mr. McCombs, a married man, has obviously made quite an impression upon this anonymous admirer, who unknowingly sat next to him before a show. Cass, if you’re out there reading this, know that you are loved… in a very poetic, creepy way.
Arguably the best song on Cass McCombs’ excellent new full-length Catacombs, “You Saved My Life” also just got the video treatment. Pretty. weird. Pretty. Awesome.
It’s no secret that in today’s musical climate, touring is where the money is at. This may explain why The Walkmen, whose most recent record, You & Me, came out late last summer, have decided to tour this summer with Cass McCombs, whose most recent record, Catacombs, comes out this summer, and play the SummerStage in Central Park with Dinosaur Jr, whose most recent album, Farm, comes out tomorrow, two days after the official start of this summer, in August, which is right smack dab in the middle of this summer. To be honest, You & Me didn’t really hit us until early fall, so maybe this actually makes sense since that album was clearly made for more summery type circumstances. Full tour dates after the jump.
