Dead Man’s Bones Kick Off First Tour By Making Silly/Awesome Video

We here at The Tripwire logically get a lot of PR. Much of it is sort of an exercise wherein superlatives take find new hyperbolic heights. Can a band really be the second coming of Nirvana and take slight influence from the best parts of Limp Bizkit and the Arcade Fire at the same time? God, we hope not. Thankfully Dead Man’s Bones sound nothing like that. And they’ve made a festive little video for their first ever tour. If all PR took the form of 90-second long YouTube clips involving cracked out dogs popping balloons we might sleep a little better at night. See for yourself above.

It might have taken out the whole middle man on this if Ryan Gosling just held up a sign saying “I’m Ryan Gosling. I’m not and bearded and am going to perform on stage in a very vulnerable manner.” But I guess that would ruin the whole “We’re a real band thing” they legitimately have going for them. Dah well. If you didn’t quite catch those tour dates, here they are.

Dead Man’s Bones Announce First Tour

Dead Man’s Bones, the duo comprised of actors Zach Shields and that Ryan Gosling have announced that they’ll be taking their monster mash bedroom pop to the road. Much of their self-titled debut full-length (out via Anti- on October 6th) features the vocal assistance of the Silverlake Conservatory Childrens Choir, a role on the road that will be filled by local childrens’ choirs in every city. Plus, what’s more, opening act duties will be eschewed every night in order to make room for a talent show. So not only do you get to see that hunky dude from the Notebook rock out a bit, you get kids singing creepy things and a talent show. There’s no downside. At all.

Dead Man’s Bones – Name In Stone

Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields directed their new Dead Man’s Bones video for “Name In Stone”. They sing a dark and spooky tune alongside the LA Inner City Mass Choir and the Silverlake Conservatory Choir. Shot in one take on 2 rolls of 8mm film, the above video does the band name justice as they are in a graveyard. Everything is very literal.

Ryan Gosling’s Dueling Bones

deadman

Rumors abound that Ryan Gosling was dropped from Peter Jackson’s adaptation of Lovely Bones for having, eh how to put this, a touch of the pudge. And while that is hard to believe coming from the director who so publicly cast his own spare tire into the fires of Mordor, the fact that Gosling and Zach Shield’s music project is called Dead Man’s Bones (signed with Anti-Records) now takes on a new dimension as the band’s and film’s release dates approach. Is Dead Man’s Bones a shot at Jackson? A threat? An insult? Is Lovely Bones Jackson’s way of saying he’s sorry? Actually no, none of that makes any sense but how else can we get you excited about a tracklist and cover art?

01. Intro
02. Dead Hearts
03. In the Room Where You Sleep
04. Buried in Water
05. My Body’s a Zombie for You
06. Pa Pa Power
07. Young & Tragic
08. Paper Ships
09. Lose Your Soul
10. Werewolf Heart
11. Dead Man’s Bones
12. Flowers Grow Out of My Grave

Ryan Gosling’s Dead Man’s Bones Sign To Anti-

deadmansbones

Ryan Gosling’s new project with Zach Shields, Dead Man’s Bones, have signed with Anti- Records, joining ranks with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Neko Case, and Os Mutantes. The duo’s self-titled debut is due out in October and promises to feature tracks about werewolves and “zombies with broken hearts,” and somehow also incorporates the innocent youngins of the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir. The twosome even filmed  a clip for album track “Name In Stone” in a graveyard. How very ghoul-like.
