In honor of Galaxie 500’s 2010 reissuing plan, we’d like to take this opportunity to call attention to our favorite Galaxie 500 video moment: this smelly gorilla eating an unidentified object while showered with some smoke and projection. Or maybe he’s eating a cherry in front of a projection of She’s All That? Doesn’t matter! This song’s ridiculously good!
Domino UK will release deluxe versions of 90s dreamweavers Galaxie 500’s three albums on March 22. The band’s debut album, Today, will include a rarities disc, Uncollected, which was originally released in 1996 as part of a Galaxie 500 box set. The band’s second album, On Fire, will be packaged with a CD of Peel Sessions (first issued in 2005), and This Is Our Music will be paired with Live from Copenhagen, a live album that was first made available in 1997. All three albums will also be reissued on heavyweight vinyl.
Online retailer Insound, has announced a collaboration with designer Mike Perry, called “Insound 10 Classic.” A collection of posters, t-shirts, and tote bags, it’s the sequel to Insound 20, which debuted last summer. Insound 20 was a collaboration with designer Jason Munn, who designed merchandise for the creme de la creme of indie rock, including Grizzly Bear, the Hold Steady, and the National, among others.
This time, however, Insound and Perry have chosen to focus on “iconic bands from indie rock’s great history,” including 10 bands that span a 20 year period, and will use the project to “create a visual narrative and revisit great older or defunct bands’ visual identity through new designs.” Many of the bands featured have had no new merchandise on the market for a decade or more. The “narrative” begins in 1977’s punk scene and winds through new wave and 80s “college rock” before arriving at the current world of indie rock. The artists are as follows:

Independence Day is just three days away and we’ve got good news that’s loosely related. No, seriously: late 80s indie rock lions Galaxie 500 are re-issuing every one of their wondrous full-lengths on wondrous vinyl, not least of which includes 1990’s This Is Our Music, a slowcore stunner that features one of our favorite jams, “Fourth Of July.” It’ll all be available through the band’s brand new website. We’ll get an mp3 and video of that track up just as quickly as our fingertips will let us.
