IFC Will Host “Film and the Folk/Punk Connection”

ianmackeye

It’s a star studded evening, if by “star”, you mean punk rockers who never accepted any interviews with any major magazines and perform in musty basements a lot.  New York City’s IFC Theater is kicking off a series of music movie nights curated by Jem Cohen, best known for his Fugazi documentary, Instrument:

Among the films shown as part of the evening are John Cohen’s 1963 music documentary That High Lonesome Sound; Jem Cohen’s Nice Evening, Transmission Down, a portrait of Sparklehorse’s Mark Linkous; a short film of Patti Smith’s cover of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”; never-before-seen outtakes from Jem’s Fugazi film Instrument; and other surprises.

Will that other surprise be Ian MacKaye taking off his knit wool hat for the first time in 15 years?
