As we approach the release of Kurt Vile’s forthcoming long-player, Childish Prodigy, Matador posted this fantastic slice of footage of Kurt and his Violators letting the jams loose on Rittenhouse Square in Philly PLUS an interview. Sweet Jesus, are we excited for this record to come out. October 6th. Mark it.
In anticipation of the release of his latest album, Child Prodigy, via Matador Records, Kurt Vile has let loose an MP3 of album opener “Hunchback” for your listening pleasure. Child Prodigy will be out on October 6; check out “Hunchback” here.
And, in celebration (CUE HORN BLAST) of said masterpiece’s release, the Vile and his Violators will be touring all over the country this fall. Tour dates are as follows:

Brooklyn’s Woods have joined up with Kurt Vile and Swedish psych stars Dungen for a tour we’re just going to call A Bunch of Great Bands on One Stage Tour 2009. In addition to the aforementioned trio of excellence, select dates will feature Grooms, Wavves, Real Estate and Popo. Other potential tour highlights include a stop in Big Sur (peyote optional) and a tour-closing date in Seattle, which seems pretty fitting considering all these guys clearly owe a debt to ’90s Northwest rock.

The Matablog’s first post this morning was an exciting one. Turns out Philadelphia lo-fi folk gladiator Kurt Vile has signed to Matador Records. The indie juggernaut going so far as to call their new roster addition “one of the more important figures in American music circa 2009.” Vile’s first full-length on the label, Childish Prodigy, is set to unfurl this coming Autumn.
