You know the parties we’re talking about. At midnight you’ve got a sort of spontaneous dance vibe going and all is feeling right Fast forward two or three hours and maybe a few more beverages and everyone is playing DJ. One guy thinks LCD is always a safe bet so he throws on “All My Friends.” At first you kind of move to it and remember what an all-time jam it is. Then, six minutes into the thing you’re near tears on the couch calling your college ex-girlfriend and wondering what happened to your youth. Or, you know, something like that. Regardless, someone needs to stop that guy at the next party.

Anyway, the tracklist for the upcoming LCD album (due out May 18 in the U.S.) was just released on Pitchfork, and the titles are just vague enough to let us do some speculating on what will emerge from this album as the heart of our future party playlists. Here goes…

Dance Yrself Clean: Sounds fun but too self-aware for our liking: 1:15
Drunk Girls: Similarly-titled Kanye song turned out to be one of the biggest duds of Graduation, but we think James might handle the subject matter a bit more delicately on this apparent potential single: 1:5
One Touch: This sounds of a more romantic (Edit: or overtly sexual) vein to us, but James is a tricky fellow, so maybe not: 1:10
All I Want: For some reason this sounds like a potential steamroller: 2:1
Change: We’re worried (read: secretly pumped) that this is the “All My Friends” style self-deprecating jam of the album. Remember, don’t be that guy: 1:20
Hit: All our hopes lead to this being a balls-to-the-wall victory lap of sorts, but in our minds it’s also like 9 minutes along, and have you seen us dance for nine straight minutes? Yikes: 1:10
Pow Pow: We’re calling this one our dark horse because, well, exclamatory titles FTW! (See: “Get” Innocuous!” and the Crass version of “Yeah” always felt like it should have some exclamation) 1:4
Somebody’s Calling Me: Now we’re just back on that party couch getting an awkward returned call from the college ex-girlfriend. She’s married now? WHAT?! 1:40
What You Need: Normally we’re not so into being told what we need, but in dance form it can be helpful at times. People still do the “Cha Cha Slide,” right? We’re pretty sure James has a much better idea what we need than that guy… 1:2

This concludes our very scientific oddsmaking session. Question: where would the indie rock Vegas be? Austin? Portland? The bodega with the slots machine in Williamsburg? Wherever it is, see you there in May with the results. (Via: P4K)

Oh, and arguing about it— the Internet’s good for that as well.

So, without introduction — okay, much introduction — we’ve neatly organized this year’s Sasquatch! lineup for you in terms of musical “genres,” after the jump. Don’t like reading? Fine, we’ll just tell you the basics: it’s taking place from May 29 – 31 at the Gorge Ampitheatre in George, WA, and Pavement is playing. ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?!?!?!

There’s more to be announced as well, so if you’re really disappointed Limp Bizkit didn’t make the cut, well, keep your fingers crossed (or not).

The good news: Murphy also seems like a bit of a Phil Jackson type, sans the whole Zen master thing. That is to say, he seems like (and even admits in said interview) the type who says things solely to motivate himself toward creating his magnum opus (also, we totally see Murphy as Team Shaq as opposed to Team Kobe). So in just that spirit, we feel compelled to announce that our next blog post will be our last under the Tripwire name. It’s been a good run, kids.
Noah Baumbach (of The Squid and the Whale and Kicking and Screaming fame) has a new movie coming out. James Murphy’s “All of My Friends” serves as the soundtrack to said film’s trailer. Said trailer promises that the movie will also feature original music from Murphy, which he said in an interview with Drowned In Sound, will sound “NOTHING like LCD”. The film, titled Greenberg, stars a suprisingly subdued, non-obnoxious Ben Stiller, who agrees to housesit for his brother in Los Angeles upon losing his job. He then reconnects with his old friend and former bandmate, played by Rhys Ifans, while spending increasing amounts of time with his brother’s personal assistant (Greta Gerwig). “As their relationship develops through a series of embarrassingly awkward romantic encounters, even someone as irascible as Greenberg might have at last found a reason to be happy,” the official synopsis reveals. The film will be released on March 12 of next year. It sounds like the perfect role for Stiller. Mr. Murphy also makes a cameo that should prove to be as perfect a dramatic fit.

826NYC is also apart of other 826 programs across the country, which includes locations in Chicago, Seattle, and Michigan to name a few. The first one, 826 Valencia in San Francisco, was founded in 2002 by author Dave Eggers and helps kids from ages six through 18 in their writing skills, critique, and process, while also providing support to educators. All proceeds from tonight’s show at benefit the NYC branch.

In related news, VW’s Rostam Batmanglij and Ra Ra Riot’s Wes Miles are additionally embarking on a “super side project” called Discovery that will have a full length out over the summer.
A slew of awesome artists are lending their talents to charity, making a compilation album called Causes 2, to try and help benefit charity organizations aiding in the effort to stop the mass genocide occurring in Darfur.
The loaded album is due out on May 5 on Waxploitation, and 100% of the proceeds will go towards three different humanitarian organizations — Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières, Human Rights Watch, and Oxfam America — that are volunteering their efforts to help end the mass killings in the Sudan region.

Causes 1 was the start of these compilation albums aimed at projecting the word about Darfur, while giving it’s proceeds to the aforementioned organizations. Causes 1 also enlisted a great mixture of artists for its tracks, including The Shins, Bright Eyes, Animal Collective and Spoon, so even if you don’t know much about what’s going on, buying the album is an attempt at throwing some sort of support to those who need it.

You can view a video for Causes 2 here, and you can pre-order the album worldwide here.

LCD Soundsystem teamed up with the famous frog to create a new video for "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down" from last year's Sound of Silver.

Kermit tried to tell us years ago that it’s not easy being green. Back then he did it with a friendly little melody and some acoustic guitar. Now the message is getting a bit more aggressive, and he’s bringing some famous friends along for the ride. LCD Soundsystem teamed up with the famous frog to create a new video for “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down” from last year’s Sound of Silver.

Kermit spends most of the video chilling on a rock in the bay with the New York skyline in the background, venturing in a few times to perch in the middle of Times Square, roundabout the spot you might usually see The Naked Cowboy. And he belts those passionate final notes out like only a frog could. Be warned, though — the end of the video reveals a little something about Kermit that could be a bit shocking for some. Viewer discretion is advised.

LCD Soundsystem (Featuring Kermit the Frog) – “New York I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down”

And while we’re advising that discretion, we’ll tell you about another of Kermit’s cries for help. Even Jim Henson couldn’t have seen this one coming. Here Kermit enlisted the help of Nine Inch Nails, or at least their permission to put his own spin on “Hurt.” This one definitely isn’t for the faint of heart, and probably no decent person should view it or find it in any way humorous. But God knows that never stopped us. Enjoy.
