Alec Baldwin’s Daughter Gets Weezy Cake for Birthday, World Jealous

Picture 2

Yep. The title is true. Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin’s daughter Ireland asked for, and, more importantly, received a Lil’ Wayne monument of a cake for her birthday. Needless to say, the youngster is probably the coolest kid in her grade, or at least, shooting up the ranks of the middle school social ladder. Of course, its Hollywood so lil Ireland Basinger Baldwin can’t be on top forever, oh no, not with competition like Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s daughter Tallulah, who was reportedly seen at the same Beverly Hills bakery ordering an Easy-E cake complete with fudge-sicle oozies and a chocolate jheri curl with double chocolate truffle oil Soul Glo…better let ya Soullll Glow.

Weezer+Weezy Collabo Forgets That Parodies Require Humor

weezerwayne

Upon hearing Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo spill the beans on their Lil’ Wayne collaboration “Can’t Stop Partying”, we were at least intrigued. We haven’t exactly been overwhelmed with Weezer’s recent creative output, but we thought maybe a few hours of studio time with a mad scientist like Weezy couldn’t hurt. The man seems to have more creativity for leftover mixtape tracks than most artists do for entire albums. And throwing him on a song about partying seems sort of like telling John Woo circa 1997 that you made this whole movie but just have this little crash scene with a $10 million budget for him to do. Wayne has made multiple hits out of Bobby Valentino songs, dude could have hit a home run even if he phoned it in.

However, the reality of this song turned out to be a bit of a buzzkill for us. As it turns out, Weezy was several hours late to the studio (what) and Cuomo never even got the chance to see him. And “Can’t Stop Partying” turns out to be a semi-ironic take on the rock star (read: clichéd take on rap star) lifestyle where Cuomo croons about his addiction to VIP rooms and Patron. But it couldn’t really be called a parody because, well, it’s not funny. So it’s hard to really tell what purpose the track serves, besides accidentally ending up as a sad welcome into Weezy’s probable upcoming prison sentence with lines like “Please don’t shoot me down because I’m an endangered species.”Although, there is the slight chance this record could be the end of Weezer’s coming full circle. They’ve created a world in which even the poppiest of collaborations is unsurprising. If only TRL still existed, they might finally have enough pull there to get some all vegan snack tray.

Lil Wayne pleaded guilty today to weapons charges in New York, the very same  to which he pleaded not guilty  following a 2007 incident in which the rapper was caught with a .40 caliber semi-automatic in his possession. Wayne, who is currently free on bail until his February sentencing, is reportedly expecting a one year jail sentence. (via RS)

Weezy Guests on Weezer’s Raditude, Adds Missing Rad

weezerwayne

First, there was the album title: Raditude. Then, there was the explanation for said ridiculous title: Rainn Wilson (Dwight from The Office) came up with it. Now, for its next act, Weezer has unveiled a guest artist on its upcoming album: Weezy. Because Weezy and Weezer are a match made in heaven. Little Wayne recorded a guest rap on the album to give the particular song a certain “edge,” according to frontman Rivers Cuomo, who kept the track title secret.

“We got Lil Wayne to come in and do a rap on it,” he said. “Any other rapper would’ve just done, ‘Yay, we’re partying! Let’s drink and have fun,’ but he gave it the edge I was looking for. You can hear in his voice, it sounds so dark, like he was gonna get shot or something when he walks out of the studio. So I was real happy that everyone involved got what we were going for.”

This guest spot, along with various other developments in the band’s latest album, represents a turning point for Weezer, who desire to do something “different” this time around. “We loved that album, but this is 2009,” Cuomo said. “It’s time to do something totally different. So I reached out to some friends of mine in different genres: Jermaine Dupri, for example, king of R’n'B, I wrote a song with him called ‘Can’t Stop Partying’. It was a real challenge for me, taking his ideas, which are very slick, R’n'B party, and giving it some kind of edge, some darkness, making it work with rock, making it work with Weezer.”

So, ultimate conclusion: Weezy and Weezer want you to party like it’s 2009. Be warned.

Somebody (Universal) Puts Lil’ Wayne’s Rock Album In The Corner (Again)

LilWayne

Wayne’s Rebirth was once again pushed back, this time to December 15, and there  is a certain point in all this where we start to feel bad for the dude. Or, you know, as bad as we can feel for someone who could probably purchase our hometown with a leftover cash wad he didn’t even know he had and then forget the transaction ever happened the same night. Sure, everyone and their brother has their album delayed these days. But this weird little experiment was due out in April. And Wayne’s last CD sold a million in a week. And sometimes he raps about Harry Potter! Plus, if it does happen to be awful at least we’ll just get it out of the way so he can start working on Tha Carter IV or whatever uncreatively titled opus he has in store next. Food for thought, Universal. (Via: Vulture via RapUp)
