This Saturday, August 22, Rockaway Beach will be taken over by music fans looking for a good time, as a beach party looks to display the latest and greatest in art and music. The show, to be held at 96th Street on the beach, will feature art by Blain Vandenberg, Cat Chow, Dana Bell, GRant Worth, Kyle Field, MV Carbon, Robbie McDonald, Scott Hugg, Taketo Shimada, Wyatt Kahn, and Jeffery-Elain Shotvenberger. Tunes will be provided by Messages, Revival Times, Skint, and Little Wings, whose mp3 of “Sandy Babe” we’re currently featuring.
The event is free, and will be held from 1 to 9 PM. Be there or be square.
Marriage records promotes this new Little Wings track as “Sunday morning summer music”, but Kyle Field’s vocals sound as crackly as the Autumn leaves that will be falling in a month or so. As Little Wings, Field is perhaps most known as part of Devendra Banhart’s Golden Apples Of The Sun compilation that established the name of freak folk a few years back.
The present single comes after a two year period of silence after 2007’s awesome Soft Pow’r LP, although Field has also recently designed a few skateboard decks. The interest in skateboarding gives further insight into the possibility that Field and his cracking voice are reverting to middle school maturity.
