Meg White Getting Hitched To Patti Smith’s Son

Meg White is getting hitched. The White Stripes drummer will be tying the knot with Patti and Fred Smith’s son, Jackson (you guessed it) Smith of Back in Spades, later this month in Nashville, Tennessee.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the couple have been engaged since early this year, but they are planning on keeping the wedding small, so it can be just about the two of them. White and Smith have set the date for May 22
.
White’s marriage to Smith will be her second, since she was previously married to her band mate, Jack White, for four years, up until 2000. White also ran into some controversy two years back, after she allegedly appeared in sex tape that was spread around the internet. The video was later proven to be an undeniable fake.

Right now the White Stripes are on a hiatus, while Jack and Meg focus on their own separate projects, but it is worth noting that according to the Detroit Free Press article, Jack will be attending the wedding.

There are a few things that could be said about The White Stripes‘ performance on Conan’s last Late Night, but we want to make this about the positivity of the night. We’ll just leave it at they play drum-less, and despite what you may be thinking, it’s not a better alternative for Meg. Nor is it as good as this cameo they had on Conan’s show last year. But still, it’s nice to watch the love in the room.

Meg White’s Drum Kit Hits Auction Block, Terry Reid Realizes No One Cares He Was Almost Robert Plant

Lots of musical memorabilia is hitting the auction block next week as part of a benefit for Detroit music icon Jim Shaw, including one of Meg White’s drum kits. We just hope she has a little more luck than woulda-coulda Led Zeppelin-ite Terry Reid.

The drum kit was the one used in The White Stripes’ video “The Hardest Button to Button,” and it’s being auctioned alongside tons of other rock paraphernalia to help Shaw and his family following a very serious cancer diagnosis. The auction and a benefit concert take place on February 7 in Detroit.

It is indeed our hope that they pull in (surely on Meg’s drum kit alone) more than the whopping $595.18 price tag that Terry Reid’s original contract to be a part of Led Zeppelin sold for on eBay. It’s a sad tale, really, sort of like being one number shy of winning the lotto jackpot.

Reid gave the facts to The Daily Mail in an interview last year:

“These guys are my friends. There was no Led Zeppelin at the time when Jimmy Page was trying to put the group together, and if I had have joined, they might not have been the band they are today.”

As a fresh-faced 16-year-old, Reid joined a group named Peter Jay and Jaywalkers and caught the eye of the Rolling Stones, who asked the band to support them on their 1966 tour.

At around this time he was approached by Page, who had just left the Yardbirds and was trying to get a new group together.

Reid recalls: “I was asked by Jimmy if I was interested and I said, ‘Yes, but I’m about to go on tour with the Stones’. I was 16 and I had signed a tour contract which I was going to stick to. That was when I mentioned Robert and John. I knew them.”

Plant had been in a group called the Band of Joy with Bonham, and was singing at the time with another band named Hobbstweedle.

“I phoned up Jimmy. and he asked me, ‘What does this singer look like?’ I said, ‘What do you mean, what does he look like? He looks like a Greek god, but that doesn’t matter. I’m talking about the way he sings, and the drummer is awesome.’

What started as a funny post on the Hipinion message board spread like wild fire, eventually becoming the 7th most searched phrase on the internet.

From The Daily Swarm: On Monday, September 17, at 6:17 AM, a long time member of the Hipinion forum community started a thread entitled MEG WHITE SEX TAPE with a simple link to a homemade porn video featuring a female sex partner who bore more than a passing resemblance to a certain rock and roll drummer. A brief 8-hour, 40-post debate ensued over the authenticity of its subject — with many of the same jokes that were soon to be made all over the world — before the thread slipped into the archives.

The hoax became so wide spread that both the poster (Itsmecraig) and The White Stripes‘ publicist were forced to make public statements.

From The White Stripes’ publicist: Some people have a very twisted sense of humor and this prank is in particularly bad taste. The tape circulating on the internet as featuring Meg White is fake. It’s definitely not Meg.
