Pick L.A.: you win No Age. D.C.? Jay Reatard or Mew. Oakland? Rain Machine. New York City? Could be Jay, Kyp or Bad Lieutenant. It’s like a new unique experimental rock act at every corner. Jay even found a new rhythm section for the occasion.

Black Francis and Co. are embarking on a nine-city U.S. jaunt (right after their European dates that kick off the Doolittle Tour) to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their classic album Doolittle, and apparently thought it would be a worthwhile notion to spread the celebration around. Below are the dates and a confusing system of asterisks to differentiate opening bands.

Mew’s New Album May Have Longest Title Ever

mew

Before Trent Reznor disappears forever, he’s going on tour with Danish trio Mew. In addition to the dates with Nine Inch Nails, the band will be playing a smattering of headlining shows along the way, dates of which are below. On these headlining dates fans can expect to hear new tracks off their upcoming release, entitled No more stories, are told today, I’m sorry, they washed away, No more stories the world is grey, I’m tired, Let’s wash away. Yes, that’s the album’s name, and it’s coming out on August 25th. For added incentive to see them live, lead singer Jonas Bjerre provides visuals which last well after the band’s set for a “dream-like experience”, and we’re pretty sure you can’t find that on iTunes.

8.24.09 – Brooklyn, NY @ Williamsburg Music Hall*
8.26.09- New York, NY @ Terminal 5 (Opening For Nine Inch Nails)
8.28.09 – Chicago, IL @ Aragon (Opening For Nine Inch Nails)
8.29.09 – Chicago, IL @ Aragon (Opening For Nine Inch Nails)
9.01.09 – Los Angeles, CA @ Troubadour*
9.02.09 – Los Angeles, CA @ Palladium (Opening For Nine Inch Nails)

Mew – “Introducing Palace Players”

mew

The first single from Mew’s upcoming LP, No More Stories Are Told Today I’m Sorry They Washed Away No More Stories The World Is Grey I’m Tired Let’s Wash Away (still not as bad as Marnie Stern), “Introducing Palace Players” sees a bit more pop than the normally progressive and self-described pretentious art rock these Danes have given us in years past.
