Yo La Tengo’s songs have always been popular in our hearts. Unfortunately our hearts ever so rarely translate into Soundscan numbers these days, or Japandroids would have done some Miley Cyrus numbers (they basically sing about the same stuff!). But at least now they can be popular in title too, as their upcoming Popular Songs is currently streaming in its entirety on NPR. Check it out!
Neither of which are as prestigious as the newly bestowed Tripwire award for “least bland band that NPR has gotten behind since Wilco”. With that glittering praise in mind, we highly recommend checking out NPR’s just-posted live set from The Antlers at The Black Cat in D.C. If that 20 minute video doesn’t sate, you can also check out a stream of The Antler’s new album, Hospice that Spinner is hosting for this week. We don’t want to pull an elitist music-blog move and brag about how we’ve been jamming out to Bromst for the last month, but we will just so we can go on the record as saying the new Dan Deacon LP is one of our favorites of 2009.
