Obama Joins Millions of Americans in Calling Kanye a Jackass

Admittedly we don’t have many Presidential posts on the ole (Trip)wire over here, but if Barack keeps firing shots at music royalty we might just have to give him some more digital ink. Apparently, the President made an off the record comment stating so much last night that a reporter (ABC’s Terry Moran) ran with (err… Twittered with). ABC issued an apology and what not, but we’re pretty sure this will work out just fine for Obama in the end as at the moment it’s sort of like saying Orrin Hatch is old. (Via: Vulture via Politico)

Fiery Furnaces Like Obama, Health Care

fieryfurnaces

The Fiery Furnaces like Obama. They like Obama so much that, in an attempt to build awareness and support for the President’s health care reform initiative, the bro-and-sis team are converting upcoming shows into mini-rallies, a plan made clear by two posts on their MySpace.

Why not have some information at your merch table, letting people know how they can support health care reform? Why not put someone on your guest list who can talk to people about how they can support health care reform? Why not mention that sort of thing from the stage, in the midst of one of your charming in-between-song monologues?

They’re also touring:

08.16.09 Richmond, VA – The National *
08.17.09 Carrboro, NC – Cat’s Cradle *
08.18.09 Charlotte, NC – Visulite Theatre *
08.19.09 Nashville, TN – Mercy Lounge *
08.20.09 Atlanta, GA – Variety Playhouse *
08.21.09 Birmingham, AL – Bottletree *
08.22.09 Tampa, FL – The Orpheum
08.23.09 Orlando, FL – The Social *
08.25.09 Asheville, NC – The Grey Eagle *
08.26.09 Charlottesville, VA – Fry’s Spring Beach Club *

Santogold & De La Soul @ The Shepard Fairey Inauguration Party | DC

Obama Inauguration

Resident Tripwire videographer Maia Stern was lucky enough to get tickets to the inauguration ceremonies on Tuesday. But her luck didn’t stop there, because she got to attend the private Shepard Fairey inauguration party where both Santogold and De La Soul performed, while Moby DJ’d. Apparently there was no sighting of the Obamas dancing to “At Last” like they did at ten other parties, there was plenty of good vibes to make up for it. Lucky for us, she took her camera with her and this is what she saw.

The Real Pretenders; Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman

yoyoperlman

If you’re wondering how Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman managed to deliver a flawless performance in the below freezing temperatures of Tuesday’s Presidental Inauguration, you can stop now. Turns out the classical quartet who played prior to Obama’s swearing into office, managed to pull a fast one on viewers as a prerecorded track was played for all to hear instead of the real deal.

Win Tickets To See FELA! On Broadway

Win Tickets To See FELA! On Broadway

We’re not sure Fela Kuti’s epic story should be told in any other format besides the musical, and we don’t even like musicals!  That said, it just so happens we’re giving away two tickets to see the show for zero dollars. All you need to do is leave us a haiku in the comments before [...]
