Ryan Adams Says Courtney Love Is Confused And Lies? Whaaaat?

ryanadams

It’s sad people rarely stop to acknowledge all the good Twitter/MySpace has done for the world. And by “good” we really mean weird and by “world” we really mean rock writers. Folks used to have to interview Courtney Love to get crazy-ass quotes. Now they’re just one lazy click away. Strange times we live in.

Anyway, over the past year Love has used both Internet mediums to berate Ryan Adams for a number of things, namely being owed a ridiculous lump sum for paying for the production of his Rock n Roll album and regretting “very safe sex with him.” Well Adams has gone old school on her with a response, releasing a statement to Gawker through his publicist responding to the many varied accusations in one clean paragraph with no ridiculous tangents, misspellings or exclamation. We didn’t even know people still did that. Says Adams…

“I have never had any romantic, personal or financial involvement with Courtney Love. She is confusing me with her ex, who produced my Rock n Roll record, which was financed solely by Universal Music.”

The end? Yeah, probably not. (Via: Gawker)

Ryan Adams First Video Game Blog Entry Devolves Into Stream Of Consciousness, Self-Deprecating Rant

ryanadams

So if you’re the sort of person who has ever unironically (or for that matter ironically) thrown around the term “blogosphere” you might have already known Ryan Adams was given a video game column to indulge his creative whims. And if you’re not that type, well, the headline basically gave you the gist. His first entry came out today on The Awl, and in theory it was a review of the old arcade game Gorf. In actuality, about 80 percent of this long form review are more about drunken metaphors, Danzig, Whitesnake being the perfect soundtrack for fireworks mishaps and giving Adams a venue to call craters “cosmic acne.” Finally, on page two (yes, there’s a page two) he begins analyzing the game (apparently it has levels and shit), and is pretty funny about doing so, sort of granting how ridiculous the premise is.

A few highnotes:

“Gorf stands for “Galactical Orbital Robot Force,” which is not a Radiohead album (yet).”

“Playing Gorf is like getting wasted, or what I remember about getting wasted: It’s loud, it’s confusing, there are a bunch of lights going off, people (robots) are shooting at you, you need pizza, etc., then its game over.”

“…as my pops once told me “You lose when you drop the quarter in.” What an ass. He obviously never heard the whole “Don’t hate the player, hate the game” thing, but then he never was much of a gangsta.”

If you’re made is this far already, just read the damn thing.

Norah Jones’s New Album To Feature Ryan Adams and Will Sheff, Possibly Rule

norahryan

Though Ryan Adams hasn’t put out a great record in a while, we dig on the fact that he’s become an Americana-fied, big belt buckled version of Bob Pollard—he cranks songs out and more often than not, they do the trick. Meanwhile, Will Sheff of Okkervil River has been on a songwriting tear as of late, having penned enough fireball lyrical turns to make most writers green with envy. Which is why Norah Jones enlisted the two to help co-write her forthcoming full-length alongside longtime collaborator Jesse Harris. Jones, a chanteuse more closely associated with piano bench fare for your Dad, will be playing guitar on this one, a change that might signal some eminent rocking and rolling. She, as some may recall, also helped Adams write “Dear John” for the latter’s 2005 record with his Cardinals, Jacksonville City Nights. Soy lattes will be a’spilling. (via SPIN)

Ryan Adams And The Cardinals @ The Wellmont Theater | NJ

The Cardinals

Ryan Adams has had a career — and demeanor — as huge and strange as the New Jersey venue he played this weekend. We’re not implying the Wellmont is not a beautiful theater, but it is odd (maybe oddly appropriate?) that Montclair, NJ would be Adams and The Cardinals’ only local stop. Luckily for us, Tripwire photographer Kelli McNamara caught the show. Here is what she saw.

Death Cab, Dashboard, Girl Talk (& More) Announced To Play Langerado ‘09

Langerado organizers announced the initial line-up for the seventh-annual music festival today, which is exciting for two primary reasons: 1. It’s a three-day music festival in south Florida, being held this year for the first time in gorgeous Miami; 2. It reminds us that the most magical time of year, festival season (Coachella, SXSW and Bonnaroo, glee!), is almost upon us.
