Big concert, and currently, every mag large and small in New York is raving about how amazing it was. I had to come out to check out what was in store, as the lineup read like a who’s who of upper-echelon indie rock, crowned by Byrne, plus Sharon Jones!?!? Of course, when you pack this many acts into a night something has to give, and each artist performed four songs or less, sort of bite-sized micro-sets.

We are always putting out rock foot forward on the Tripwire, but sometimes we got to let the world know we have soul too. Like contemporaries Ralph “Soul” Jackson and Charles Walker, Lee Fields released a series of rare singles in the 70s that have been rediscovered by crate diggers and brought out of obscurity by a new generation of soul labels. And his forthcoming LP (June 2) on Stones Throw imprint Truth & Soul, My World, hasn’t left our stereo since it landed on our desk.
