Tripwire Video Premiere: The Replacements’ “When It Began”

replacementswhenitbeganYou’ve gotta hand it to The Replacements for busting out the green screen during an era of video-making that pretty much mirrored the aesthetic of my high school photography class. I mean, I would totally hang out in this fake town made of clay. But why is Paul wearing a sleeping mask? Why do I kind of have a crush on that clay-person in the audience at the 1:05 minute mark? If I hit replay on this video one more time, my brain is going to explode because it has reached max capacity of awesome.

The Uptown: Minneapolis Music Landmark Demolished Today

The Uptown Bar, once deemed “The House The Replacements Built”, was piled into the ground with a wrecking ball earlier today. City Pages has some photos of the desruction. The venue, which was sold earleir this year, hosted a month of so of farewell shoes as a tribute to the Twin Cities’ rock mecca it once was. The bar had made plans to re-open at a South Minneapolis location, but complications and liquor permit restrictions have prevented this from happening at this point. For now, it serves as a memory of a musical era in the Twin Cities as well as the band and legacy that was born out of it. Check the sweet video retrospect 89.3 The Current did in its honor above. Replacements News Galore: Tribute Show, Book and New Paul Westerberg EP

replacements

Paul Westerberg may not be winning any awards for album title clarity in the near future, but his formidable musical catalog helps us roll over the PW & the Ghost Gloves Cat Wing Joy Boys a little easier. The title takes one word from each song title on the EP, creating a sort of musical madlib, which we suppose we can get behind. And it’s a mere $3.98 for download on Amazon (or $6.98 for a physical copy with an odd collage-type thing of Paul and a wolf in the forest)! That’s less than those Subway sandwiches, and with a lot gain.

In other Replacements news, Jim Walsh’s The Replacements: All Over But The Shouting will be released on paperback on November 27. That same night, if you happen to be in the Twin Cities area, Minneapolis’ First Ave. is hosting “A Tribute To The Replacements: Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Let It Be.” It  features a laundry list of local artists and it benefits the Twin Cities Music Community Trust. Sewn Together

As rock bands go, Arizona’s Meat Puppets have never been what one would classify as normal. At their calmest you could say that their approach to music is unorthodox and at their wildest well, they are flat out, full-speed-ahead weird.

Kids have it rough these days. Yeah, they’ve got cell phones and iPods and personal shoppers, but have you seen the crap they’re handed in the TV department? It’s uncool. Which is exactly why we’re so jazzed that Pee Herman has gone back to his roots and taken the Pee Herman Show back to the [...]
