The indie world is amok with affluent white kids who wear loafers and v-necks, which is in stark contrast to the recent implosion of extroverted diy hipsters that now fill the air-Wavves with lo-fi, three-chord pop songs. This is why a band like White Rabbits — who are more authentic than affluent and more intro- than extroverted — stands just outside and above both cliches. So in honor of the release of their sophomore LP It’s Frightening today on TBD Records, here is the video for the lead single “Percussion Gun” directed by Andrew Droz Palermo.

As much as we like seeing them live, we were happy to see that White Rabbits got off the tour bus for a little while, headed into a dark basement in Brooklyn and emerged with It’s Frightening, their second full-length album, set for a May 19 release on TBD records. Now, we’ve got the first track, “Percussion Gun” for your listening pleasure.

Wednesday night, I’m at the Mercury Lounge to see Ravens and Chimes, Holly Miranda and White Rabbits. It’s packed to the gills in that way those small lower east side venues tend to get, where you’re concerned that the guy tripped out on acid, slam-dancing next to the stage might either a) take out one of your kidneys or b) get electrocuted by amp cables.
