Robert Zemeckis Directing Yellow Submarine Remake

With an assist from the braintrust/vault over at Disney, classic 1968 animated Beatles feature Yellow Submarine is in the process of being—for lack of a better word—remade. Robert Zemeckis, director of the Back to the Future trilogy as well as that unsually funny Tom Hanks movie about the guy with many aphorisms and chocolates historically-charged life experiences, is currently brokering a deal to acquire rights to the film’s original soundtrack. What’s more, Zemeckis is reportedly intent on using the revolutionary “performance-capture” 3-D digital production formula that’s erm, enlivened recent films of his, The Polar Express and Beowulf. Right now seems like a good time to provide a good refresher on the storyline, but maybe a bit of impressionism works best here instead: if you’re in your twenties, chances are seeing that movie as a kid made you fee like you were on acid before you knew what acid was.
