King Khan And The Shrines – “Land Of The Freak”

whatisit

King Khan and The Shrines are going out on tour later this week, and in celebration of this and their reissue of What Is?!, here’s a look at the new video for “Land of the Freak”.

There is no denying King Khan’s outrageous presence on stage, and there is nothing better to exemplify the force that is King Khan and the Shrines than the video for “Land of the Freak”. The video itself was cut from 8mm footage from the Shrines’ past European tours, and watching the video will make you think you’re looking at old video from 1965, as choppy video footage floats in and out of the frames, while King Khan himself has an electrifying performance on stage. He looks like a wanna-be James Brown, and he has the sound to accompany it; mixed with the grit of a garage band’s distortion over a host of instrumentation.
